A recent Cloud Industry Forum (CIF) white paper, ‘The changing role of the IT department’, looks at the current state of cloud adoption, as well as what businesses are trying to achieve from an IT perspective.

The rise of multi-cloud

CIF’s research confirms that hybrid cloud is now firmly established across organisations, with workloads spread across public cloud, private clouds and on premises.

The research also reveals that 76% see a multi-cloud approach – in which multiple public clouds, software as a service, private clouds and/or service provider clouds are used to avoid dependency on a single provider – as essential.

And with 69% of respondents saying their organisation already uses more than one cloud-based service, organisations are clearly looking to take advantage of different cloud vendor offerings and the multiple benefits of spreading workloads across clouds.
